Reforms mooted for personal injury process

Calls are being made for a new agreement on improving the personal injury claim process to be included in reforms being considered by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ).

The Medical Reporting Organisations (MRO) Agreement is designed to help streamline personal injury claims by capping medical report fees for public liability, employer and road traffic accident cases.

The MRO Agreement was ratified at the end of March with more than 100 signatories composed of medical provider and insurer participants.

The agreement covers reports required from accident and emergency hospital departments (A&E), orthopaedics and GPs where personal injury compensation or damages are £15000 or less.

The Association of Medical Reporting Organisations (AMRO) is said to be "delighted" that the agreement could be incorporated into MoJ reforms.

Ian Medforth, chairman of AMRO, said, "The MRO Agreement has been in place for almost two years and there is absolutely no doubt that the premise is making a direct contribution to the acceleration and simplification of the provision of medical reporting services to the personal injury claims process."
