Coronation Street star seeks mesothelioma apology

Kenneth Cope, the Coronation Street actor, has told the Express that he is seeking an apology after an alleged misdiagnosis of mesothelioma.

After his consultant said that he was "98 percent sure" that the actor had the incurable asbestos-related lung cancer in 2000, Cope was eventually told in 2006 that he was, in fact, suffering from a treatable condition instead. An investigation found that the hospital was not guilty of breach of duty.

Cope told the paper, "The way I've been treated by the NHS is disgusting. At best there has been incompetence. For six years I lived under this false death sentence.

"All that time I have been waiting to die and then I found out I haven't had cancer after all. All I want is an apology but to this day they are refusing to admit they were wrong."

The NHS Trust involved in this case said, "If the consultant did say he was 98 per cent sure of mesothelioma, there was always that two per cent chance he did not have it."
