High wire acrobat in limbo

A Chinese acrobat who is now paralysed from the waist down after suffering a six-metre fall while rehearsing a high wire routine faces financial limbo after being told that she will probably have to wait as many as two years before she can think about commencing a work accident compensation claim.

Personal injury solicitors have informed the 22-year-old that they will have to wait for a full health and safety investigation into the accident to run its course before they can begin any compensation claim.

The work accident happened in Devon during August of 2007 as the girl practised jumping from one high wire to another. After the accident it emerged that the hook on her belt that was meant to attach her to the safety wires had somehow become unsecured. Amazingly, the girl's love of acrobatics remains undimmed by her ordeal and she says that she one day hopes to train young acrobats in the skill.

Unfortunately, with no English language skills, no immediate hope of receiving any money from a compensation claim and no entitlement to either Chinese or British disablement benefits, the 22-year-old is in desperate need of some help in order to provide for her needs until her accident claim can be resolved.
