Widow plans personal injury compensation claim

A grieving widow whose husband died a terrible death from an asbestos-related illness has vowed to fight for personal injury compensation in his name.

Mrs Carole Fox's husband, 63-year-old Michael, died in February 2006 at his Norfolk home after a short but brave fight against the industrial illness mesothelioma. He had been a pipe lagger in the 1960s and Mrs Fox believes this is how he contracted the disease that killed him.

She said, "It's not a nice disease at all; it's horrendous. It's very quick and the suffering they go through is horrendous.

The parents-of-three had been married for 34 years and had only discovered that Mr Fox was suffering from mesothelioma several months before his death. Mrs Fox gave up her job as a cleaner in order to spend time with him, and the couple took a holiday to Spain and visited friends in Scotland before his illness got too bad.

Distraught by the tragic loss of her husband, Mrs Fox is planning to make a personal injury compensation claim and said, "I'm going to fight for compensation now. I've obviously got to wait for the inquest but I will get advice and go from there."

She also explained how she was touched by the reaction to his death, saying, "He was a well-loved man and we couldn't believe the response. North Walsham Church was absolutely packed and full of family and friends at his funeral."
