Pensioner claims personal injury compensation after fall

An angry pensioner from Lancashire is making a personal injury compensation claim after tripping over a damaged kerb outside his house.

78-year-old Chris Williams has not regained full use of his arm nearly three months after the Boxing Day incident and now plans to sue the council. He tripped as he was left his Layton home to attend a Christmas buffet with friends, suffering a head injury, cuts and bruises to his knees as well as a damaged arm.

The former hairdresser told reporters, "I'm particularly angry because I reported to Blackpool Council that the pavement was in a bad state in 2004 and they didn't do anything about it.

"So I have put a claim in for compensation. I haven't put a value on the claim but it is wrong that I am suffering just because they didn't carry out a repair.

"The council spends all this money on roadworks in the town centre and nothing on the pavements in the areas where the people live who pay the council tax. It's wrong."

It has recently been revealed by a local newspaper that Blackpool Council has been forced to pay out more than £1million in personal injury compensation over the last three years as a result of people slipping and tripping on the popular holiday destination's pavements.
