Man compensated for an accident at work
A Nissan worker who lost his toe in an accident at work has been awarded £60,000 in personal injury compensation.
Terrance Doyle had been working the night shift for an agency at the Nissan Washington Road car plant in Sunderland on January 2004, when the work accident happened.
He was repairing a conveyor belt when his foot fell through a hole in the protective guarding, causing him to suffer a serious personal injury.
After being trapped for an extensive period of time, Mr Doyle was found by work colleagues and was rushed to Gateshead Queen Elizabeth Hospital with a foot injury. The severity of the work accident meant he later had to have his toe amputated.
After the work accident, Mr Doyle spent six months on crutches and continues to suffer from balance difficulties.
He received £60,000 for the accident at work in an out of court settlement but said "Even if I had got £1,000 for every minute I was trapped I would have been disappointed."
