How much personal injury compensation will I receive?

The amount of personal injury compensation you receive depends very much on the circumstances of your accident, the injuries that you received and the impact they have had on your life. Every claim is different, so it isn’t possible to put a hard figure on how much an individual will receive for a certain injury until we know more about your accident.

Compensation can be awarded in the following categories:

General damages
General damages are awarded for the physical and psychological pain, suffering and loss of amenity (inability to do things such as shopping or playing sport) that the accident caused. The amount of general damages can vary greatly, depending on how serious the personal injury was, and the length of time it has taken to heal.

However, we have created a list of common injuries and a guideline amount of compensation that these injuries normally receive - read more about compensation amounts.

Special damages
Special damages are awarded to recoup your financial losses that have been incurred by the accident. You may be able to claim compensation for the following: loss of earnings, transport costs, prescription charges, care and treatment costs, and damaged property. There may also be other special damages that you can claim for, depending on your situation.

Future losses
If your injury is such that you are unable to work, may be at a disadvantage on the labour market, or may need to retrain and undertake a different job, you may be entitled to claim for future losses as part of your compensation award.

We will be able to give you further advice on how much compensation you will be eligible for once we know the details of your injury and accident. For expert legal advice and information on the amount of personal injury compensation you could be awarded, call us today on 0800 197 32 32.
