How long does it take to make a personal injury claim?

Answering this question is tricky, as there is no particular length of time that we can say a personal injury claim should or shouldn't take. It is something of a 'how long is a piece of string?' question unfortunately! However, a good rule of thumb is that, if you have a straightforward claim, such as a whiplash related injury, or a slip or trip accident that has not resulted in multiple broken bones, for example, then your claim will be resolved more quickly. If however, you have been involved in a severe accident with multiple injuries, your claim may take a number of years.

This is because one of the main factors in determining the length of time it takes for a personal injury claim to settle depends on your recovery. We want to ensure you get complete compensation for your injuries, and if we tried to get settlement within a month or two, the full extent of your recovery may not be known and the amount of compensation underestimated.

An experienced personal injury solicitor will be able to advise you roughly how long they believe your claim may take at a particular stage, however there may be delays that we won't be aware of up front, such as; waiting for responses from the defendant's representatives or advice we need to act on as a result of any medical reports you may receive that relate to your case.

Our goal is to ensure you get the right level of compensation; one that puts you back on an even keel with where you were before the accident. We will keep you apprised of what progress has been made on your claim, and what the next steps are, in order to make sure that you're happy, comfortable and know what's going on.

However, if you do have a question, you can get in touch with your solicitor directly; just call 0800 197 32 32, and they will be happy to help.
