Personal injury news- Sisters made fake whiplash compensation claim

Three sisters have escaped being sent to jail after making a false whiplash compensation claim for a car accident.

Nasreen Akhtar, 26, and her sisters Yasmin, 29, and Parveen, 27, tried to get compensation after their car, driven by Nasreen, reversed into a car at a petrol station in Keighley in November.

At the scene of the vehicle accident police officers noted that nobody had suffered any serious personal injuries and recorded Nasreen Akhtar saying that the bump was her fault.

But several weeks later, the driver of the other vehicle, Mrs Hamilton, received a letter saying that Yasmin Akhtar was claiming whiplash compensation.

The personal injury claim also included injuries sustained by the other two sisters as well as costs for a hire car and damage caused to Nasreen Akhtar's car.

However, CCTV footage showed that the car accident claim was false and pictured Nasreen Akhtar reversing into Mrs Hamilton's vehicle.

At Bingley Magistrates' Court in August, all three sisters admitted to attempting to obtain property by deception by making the whiplash compensation and car accident claim.

Recorder Hill sentenced Nasreen and Yasmin Akhtar to nine months suspended for two years.

Nasreen Akhtar was also ordered to carry out 100 hours on unpaid community work.
