Personal injury news - Man receives road accident compensation after 18 years

A Malaysian rubber tapper has been awarded more than RM112,000 (£16,000) in road accident compensation after waiting 18 years.

Mr Sinnasamy was involved in a motorbike accident in 1988 while his sister, Veeramah, was riding pillion.

On 11th February at 10.15am their bike came into a collision with a bus near Kalumpang causing serious personal injuries to Mr Sinnasamy.

He lost the use of his upper limbs and was unable to continue working in his role as a rubber tapper which involved taking latex from rubber trees.

Mr Sinnasamy claimed for road accident compensation and in 2000 a court in Kuala Lumpur found the bus company liable for the accident and awarded him a total of RM101,862, including RM45,000 for loss of earning capacity.

In October 2003 Mr Sinnasamy appealed to the High Court and his compensation amount was increased to RM112,340.

Mr Sinnasamy had to wait 18 years but has finally been awarded the compensation for his road accident claim.
