Personal injury news- Grandmother finally has operation for neck injury
A grandmother has finally had an operation for a neck injury after waiting seven days strapped to a bed.
Jean Jackson, 61, suffered serious personal injuries when she was knocked down by a Ford KA in Pontypridd on Friday 25th August.
She was pushing her granddaughter in a pram at the time of the road accident and the three-year-old was treated for minor injuries.
Mrs Jackson had broken her neck in three places and was told that she would have to wait for an available bed in Birmingham because no beds or doctors were available in Wales or Bristol.
Daughter-in-law Deborah Jackson said, "She spent seven days strapped to a bed with a broken neck, it was horrific."
"She had a head injury and they couldn't treat it because of the broken neck and couldn't sedate her because of the head injury."
When Mrs Jackson was finally taken to Birmingham, the 115 mile journey took five hours as ambulance drivers wanted to avoid complicating her neck injury further.
A spokesperson for the Welsh Assembly said, "There will always be occasions that a patient will need to be treated at a specialist centre, wherever it's located."
