Personal injury news- Vehicle accident sparks dramatic chain of events
A young mum has revealed how a dramatic chain of events, beginning with a vehicle accident, led to her giving birth to a premature baby, who has since fought - and seems to be winning - a brave battle for life.
Just two months before her first child was due to be born, 25-year-old Michelle Green and her partner, Don Applegate, were lucky to survive after their car plunged into a ditch. Michelle walked free with no visible personal injuries and doctors declared her unborn baby unaffected.
Not long later, however, it was discovered that Miss Green was suffering from internal bleeding which caused a huge haemorrhage. As a result, a caesarean section was required, leading to the birth of her baby, Sienna, at 30 weeks into the pregnancy.
Little Sienna suffered major health problems and was forced to undergo life-saving surgery at London's Great Ormond Children's Hospital.
The baby's mother told reporters, "It was a 300ml blood clot and I lost three litres of blood the night Sienna was born.
"They said the clot had got so heavy that it forced its way out and broke the placenta on its way through. She was born on October 8th 2005 weighing 1.57 kilos and had problems straight away.
"Just before Christmas she suffered heart failure. She was taken to Great Ormond Street hospital and weighing just 4lbs she underwent a six-hour heart surgery operation."
Sienna now seems on the road to recovery but has left been with some vocal chord problems resulting from the heart surgery. She is now living in Norfolk with her parents, who are attempting to put the effects of the vehicle accident behind them, enormously thankful that they still have their baby.
