Building site accident leaves worker with head injuries
A man was taken to hospital with serious personal injuries following a work accident on a building site in East Lancashire.
Peter Walton, a 52-year-old joiner working on a project in Altham, is believed to have been working on scaffolding when it collapsed, sending him plummeting more than 20ft to the ground. Fellow workers discovered Mr Walton was suffering from severe head injuries and he was immediately rushed to hospital.
Police officers attended the site after the work accident but ruled out any foul play. Investigators from the Health and Safety Executive also made a visit to the scene and sealed off the area whilst they examined allegations that the scaffolding was dangerous.
The managing director of the construction company responsible for running the site said, "This is a very unfortunate accident and investigations to establish the cause are under way.
"We wish Peter a speedy recovery."
