Two men scalded in work accident - Power station closes

A work accident has seen the temporary closure of a main power station in the East Midlands.

A worker from engineering firm, Dresser, in Lancashire and an engineering surveyor from Royal Sun Alliance were carrying out maintenance work at Ratcliffe-on-Soar power station when they received burn injuries.

Both men are recovering from their personal injuries in Nottingham City hospital.

It has been reported that the 2,000-megawatt plant will stay closed until E.ON UK are absolutely certain that it is safe to reopen.

Jonathan Smith, a spokesman for E.ON UK, said 'We are investigating along with the Health and Safety Executive and it will remain shut until we are convinced it is safe to restart,

'It shouldn't cause any problems for the national grid.'

News of this work accident has caused concern among the power station's workforce and the local community.
