Woman pays injury compensation after vicious attack
A bank worker from Scotland has been electronically tagged and ordered to pay injury compensation after a brutal assault on a mum-to-be who was just days away from giving birth.
Heather McKay, 25, launched the vicious unprovoked attack on Donna McGivern in a park near Glasgow for what she saw as revenge for her brother, who had previously had a relationship with Ms McGivern.
Lucky to escape serious personal injury, the pregnant woman was repeatedly beaten around the face and body. As a result of the attack, she was left frightened, withdrawn and afraid to go out.
McKay was ordered to remain at home for six months between 9.30pm and 8am and was told to cancel any holidays.
Sentencing her at Airdrie Sheriff Court, Alfred Vannet said, “This was a particularly nasty assault on a heavily pregnant woman, whom you say you didn’t know was pregnant.
“You only just escape a jail term, but instead you will be imprisoned in your home for six months by way of a tagging order.
“This was the same period in which Ms McGivern had to stay at home for fear of going outside after your attack on her. It’s only right you suffer the same time at home.
“If you breach the tagging order you will be brought back before me and it is a strong possibility you will go to prison.”
In addition to the curfew order, McKay was also ordered to pay £1000 injury compensation to her victim.
