Water bomb attack almost results in car accident
A man has revealed how he was lucky to avoid being involved in a potentially deadly car accident after a water bomb was thrown from a bridge above a busy road in Wales.
Dr Stuart Andrews was driving to work along the A468 in Caerphilly, when the water-filled balloon smashed onto his car. Despite extensive rush-hour traffic and a shattered windscreen, the 27-year-old research associate somehow managed to evade a road accident and pulled onto the hard shoulder.
The Cardiff University worker believes two teenagers he saw on the bridge were responsible for the attack, and is furious at their actions. Glad that he avoided personal injury, he is also grateful that his heavily pregnant wife was not in the car at the time.
He said, "My wife is overdue to give birth and we're just so lucky she wasn't in the passenger seat.
"This is the road we would have taken to the hospital when she goes into labour, so we're very fortunate."
Hearing about the incident, Andrew Howard from the AA Motoring Trust said, "It's important to remember that something that can initially appear as though it wouldn't cause much damage can become much more dangerous when it reaches speeds of 70mph.
"I would also remind people who see people throwing objects from road bridges to do something about it and call the police."
The police are also grateful that a car accident was avoided and have asked anybody who saw the incident at 7.45am on Friday 5th May to get in contact.
