A6 car accident claims six lives and leaves one critical

A tragic A6 car accident claimed the lives of six people at 2.40 pm on the 18th June.

A Ford Escort carrying a young couple from Manchester, their four-month-old baby and the 19-year old man's two younger sisters collided with a Toyota Prius carrying an elderly couple on the A6 from Penrith to Carlisle.

The entire family in the Escort and the driver of the Prius were killed during the car accident. The wife of the elderly driver sustained personal injuries to her chest and was rushed to hospital in Carlisle where she is fighting for her life.

The car crash resulted in the closure of the A6 until 7pm and police are investigating whether the accident was caused by substantial rainfall following recent fine weather. However, this stretch of road is infamous for its major car accidents.
