Personal injury news

Teenagers most likely to make personal injury claim

The A & A Group Ltd has revealed shocking figures about the numbers of teenagers sustaining a personal injury in a road traffic accident in their first year of driving. The figures showed that teenagers and drivers under the age of 25 are twice as likely to be involved in an accident in their first year of driving.

The figures took an average of the figures from 2003, 2004 and 2005, and revealed that 38 per cent of 17 and 18 year old drivers made a personal injury claim, compared to 20 per cent of those aged 25 and above.

The A & A Group Ltd has called on car manufacturers to develop ways for teenagers to be safer behind the wheel in their first few years of driving when experience is limited. It is suggested that speed limiters be fitted to cars to prevent young drivers from reaching break neck speeds and potentially causing horrific personal injuries, not just to themselves but also to other people.

Other suggestions include making it compulsory for new drivers to take a Pass Plus course or a defensive driving course to increase their experience and driving skills. Many people are killed in car accidents every year because of the negligence of another driver.

Introducing new measures to protect young drivers may help to reduce the number of young people who suffer from a personal injury when taking to the busy roads for the first time.
