Charities pay out for compensation claims
New research has discovered that one in three people would make a make a personal injury claim against a charity if injured at a fundraising event.
Research carried out by the Royal & SunAlliance found that 420,000 people in
Britain would make a compensation claim for a personal injury despite the nation
donating almost £7.5 billion a year to charity.
According to the recent findings, accident claims for slipping or tripping at an event
are costing charities more than £13,000 per claim.
Charity development manager at R&SA, Gary Johnson, said, "The common
misconception that people don't sue charities no longer holds true. The survey
would seem to confirm that charities are increasingly exposed to a wider range of
risks that could seriously impact their ability to operate and serve their
beneficiaries."
Age is also a deciding factor when personal injury claims are made, with the over-
50s more likely to contact personal injury solicitors following an accident,
compared to 18-29 year-olds who are least likely to make an accident injury claim.
