Personal injury solicitors get bad press

Personal injury solicitors have been receiving a lot of stick in the media of late.

The UK has been accused of having a compensation culture, encouraged by personal injury law firms, despite the fact that the number of personal injury claims have actually declined in the past few years.

They have even been compared to ambulance chasers and opportunists who are just out to make a quick buck.

However, the most recent scandal is related to the £7bn compensation package awarded to sick miners. Some law firms are being investigated for deducting success fees or 'administrative' costs from the miners' compensation awards, effectively charging double for their representation since the Government guaranteed it would meet these costs.

While MPs have already criticised the conduct of some of those involved, the personal injury solicitors have stated that they feel they have been unjustly victimised for the sake of the bad publicity.
