Personal injury solicitors gain compensation from building developers for injured children

Personal injury solicitors, Shacklocks, have helped win £60,000 in compensation for a group of children injured in the collapse of a dilapidated building.

The four children were playing in the ruins of a Grade 2 listed building, Berry Hill hall, 4 years ago when one of the upper floors collapsed beneath them. The children fell almost 20 feet to the ground and suffered substantial personal injuries

Some may argue that the children should not have been playing inside the building. However, the law states that owners of buildings have a duty of care even when people are trespassing.

Consequently, Shacklocks saw that the insurers of the building's developers paid £60,000 in out of court personal injury compensation settlements to the children involved.

Delighted with the outcome for their clients, the personal injury solicitors commented: 'In my view the law has struck the right balance in this situation.

The fact is that there was very strong evidence to show that the developers knew the building was dangerous and that children were regularly gaining access.'
