Pensioner killed in tragic car accident

The distraught wife of an elderly man killed in a car accident has spoken of her grief at his sudden loss.

84-year-old Henry Grant died after being hit by a Renault Clio as he left Ararat Baptist Church in Whitchurch, Cardiff on 19th March 2006. Paramedics rushed to the scene but the pensioner died from serious personal injuries before they arrived.

Henry, known to family and friends as Harry, was escorting his wife, Wal, back to their car after she was taken ill in church. She was fortunate to survive the car accident with no injuries but watched the incident unfold and held her husband's hand as he died. The couple were only days away from celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary.

Wal told the media, "Harry was a lovely man. He was always so fit and healthy and he was looking forward to his 85th birthday and his diamond wedding.

"I will miss him very much, as will all his family, friends and relatives."

Nobody has been arrested following the tragic car accident but police have asked anybody who witnessed the incident to get in touch.
