Mother facing possible personal injury claim
after laxative incident
A woman from the United States is facing criminal charges and possible personal injury claims after allegedly helping her daughter make laxative-spiked biscuits for her teacher.
The delicious looking nibbles were left on the teacher's desk with a note saying, "We made these cookies just for you, hope you enjoy them."
But the bad joke backfired, however, and the teacher decided not to eat the biscuits but instead shared them out among her class. Four children became violently ill, and after rushing to the toilet, they were forced to seek medical attention.
Julie Hunt, the 43-year-old mother from Maine, is alleged to have shown her teenage daughter and two friends how to crush laxative pills and stir them into biscuit mixture. When Hunt appeared at Skowhegan District Court charged with minor assault, the bench heard how an entire box of pills had been used in the prank.
The daughter and her two friends were not arrested by police, but all three have been suspended from Carrabec Community School in Anson, Maine.
In addition to being charged with minor assault, Hunt could be faced by a number of injury compensation bids from the parents of the ill children. The personal injury claims could result in huge rewards and leave the mother in severe financial difficulties.
It is thought the whole episode began because the teacher gave one of the girls low marks for an assignment.
