Moped rider consults personal injury solicitors
A London motorcyclist has consulted personal injury solicitors with a view to suing Camden Council after his bike hit an unlit kerb, catapulting him into the air.
59-year-old Robert Habermann was just 200 yards from his Belsize Park home when his moped hit a protruding kerb stone on Winchester Road, resulting in him being thrown 30 metres down the road and his bike being destroyed.
He was lucky to escape the motorcycle accident with only a groin strain, slight bruising and two sore wrists, but his moped was so badly damaged that it was declared a write-off by his insurance company.
A passer-by was amazed that Mr Habermann was able to walk away from the incident and said, "He was going along on his moped at a reasonable speed when he hit the kerb. He flew about 30 metres. I was amazed when he just got up- the bike was wrecked."
Mr Habermann has since returned to the scene to take photographs, and has also instructed his personal injury solicitors to warn Camden Council of his intention to make a compensation claim for damages.
A council spokesman said, "Initial investigations show that Winchester Road is adequately lit, but if we get a formal complaint and have the precise location of the accident, we will be happy to investigate thoroughly."
