Man discovers number plate cloned after no win, no fee claim
A motorist discovered his vehicle's identity had been cloned after receiving a
telephone call from a no win, no fee firm making a claim for a road accident that
never happened.
Danny Jeynes, 26, of Dewsbury, had only been driving his new grey BMW 325 for a
month before receiving a letter from Kent Police claiming he had been involved in
a car accident.
A number of charges had been made against him including driving from the
scene of a motor accident and driving without due care and attention.
Mr Jeynes said, "I rang the police and told them it wasn't me and that I hadn't been
anywhere near Kent."
He then received a call from personal injury solicitors representing a client on a no
win, no fee basis who wanted to make a claim against him for a car accident.
"I told them it was nothing to do with me and refused to hand my details over."
The BMW driver was then contacted by a garage claiming police had recovered his
vehicle and wanted to know if they should start carrying out repairs.
Mr Jeynes is now trying to clear his name and wants to make other motorists
aware of the fraudsters cloning other vehicles number plates.
