Young man dies in work accident at Avondale
Foods factory

A young employee of Avondale Foods died in a work accident at their factory in Lurgan, County Armagh on Tuesday.

It is thought that the fatal accident occurred while the 26-year-old was operating machinery.

The young man was working the night-shift at the time of the accident and had been an employee at the factory for almost 10 years.

As many of the factory's 450-strong workforce come from the surrounding area, the death has come as a great shock to the community.

The cause of the factory accident is being investigated by both local police and the Health and Safety Executive.

This is the second death resulting from a work accident in a Northern Ireland factory this year and follows a tragic incident that saw a 22-year-old fell into a hopper at Glanbia Cheese in Magheralin in February.
