Personal injury news

London bombing survivor awaits personal injury compensation

A Welsh professor who miraculously survived the 7/7 London bombings has revealed he has only received a pitiful £10 payout to compensate for his trauma.

Still waiting for personal injury compensation from the Government, John Tulloch was only three feet away when one of the suicide bombers detonated his explosion on an Underground train at Edgeware Road Station.

Six people died in the blast and many more were left with serious personal injuries, but 63-year-old Professor Tulloch received only minor wounds to his thigh. It is thought that a briefcase at his feet shielded him from the worst of the explosion, saving his legs and quite possibly his life.

Despite his lack of physical injuries, he has suffered psychological damage including a loss of confidence, vertigo and flashbacks. He still also has trouble using public transport.

"I still haven't come to terms with travelling on tubes. So far I've only gone on them in company, but it's still a sweat-making experience," he said.

"I'm slightly better on buses, but it's still a struggle. I never stop thinking about it."

Angry at still not having received personal injury compensation more than 10 months after the terror attacks, the sociology lecturer said, "I have so far only received £10 to cover the cost of the photos of my remaining scars that the Government have asked for.

"They are certainly taking a long time over it."

Slamming Professor Tulloch's failure to yet receive personal injury compensation, MP David Davies said, "This is appalling. It is almost a year since the London bombings.

"It's another example of this Government's incompetence. I don't see any reason why they have not paid out by now."
