Local residents to meet the council about car accident black spot

Local residents in a Staffordshire village are to meet with local councillors to discuss the dangerous road which has claimed three lives in various car accidents in the last month. Villagers are complaining about the state of the road and are demanding that traffic calming measures are implemented. Many people around the UK also feel that roads in their vicinity are dangerous and lead to serious personal injuries and car accident claims.

The most dangerous roads in the UK are well publicised by road safety groups and these roads are often the first target for improvements and investment by local councils. The A682 from the M65 junction 12 in Lancashire to Long Preston, North Yorkshire is currently the most dangerous road in the UK.

On this road alone there have been 100 accidents and 27 fatalities in two years on a stretch of just 24km, with 36 head-on collisions, 24 vehicles leaving the road, 20 collisions at junctions and eight incidents with pedestrians or cyclists. Many people involved in serious accidents on the roads are making a car accident claim in order to move on with their lives.

Urban planners believe that one way to reduce the number of personal injuries and car accident claims is to remove visible road markings, traffic signals and signs. This method has been used with some success in Holland, Germany and Sweden and reduces speed and car accidents by encouraging drivers to be more considerate to pedestrians.

The government aims to reduce the number of accidents on the roads by 50% by the year 2010. This will reduce the number of people who have to make a car accident claim dramatically.
