An eight-year-old girl from Luton has died in a tragic car accident in East Sussex over the Easter weekend.

Demi Hunt was a passenger in a Renault Megane that was involved in a head-on collision with a Vauxhall Astra on the A27 near Lewes on Saturday 15th April. Emergency services rushed to the scene but the little girl died before paramedics could get her to hospital.

Eight ambulances and a helicopter attended the road traffic accident and the crews discovered five other people, including another child, trapped in the cars and suffering from serious personal injuries.

The driver of the Renault, a 30-year-old man from Dunstable was cut free and taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton where he was put in intensive car. A man in his 50s, a woman in her 30s and a six-year-old were also travelling in the vehicle and were all taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A Sussex Police spokesman revealed the driver of the Vauxhall was a 47-year-old woman from East Sussex, who was also rushed to hospital with life-threatening personal injuries.

An ambulance officer who attended the incident said it was the worst car accident he had seen in twenty years of service.
