Ex-soldier contacts personal injury solicitors to sue army
A former soldier who claims using firing ammunition damaged his hearing is suing the army for £40,000.
Barry Tamburrini, of Lanarkshire, contacted personal injury solicitors after being diagnosed with noise induced hearing loss and experiences of tinnitus.
The 32-year-old joined the army in 1995 and enlisted with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders where he was required to take part in firing exercises using live ammunition.
Mr Tamburrini said in his compensation claim to the Court of Session in Edinburgh that he was provided with an ear defender which provided little protection from the noise.
He said, "Given the obvious intense, prolonged and continuous high noise levels, a noise assessment should have been carried out on an annual basis."
Mr Tamburrini told the court that he had lost out on a promotion after failing a hearing test and now struggles to hear the television.
He contacted personal injury solicitors to make a compensation claim for his deafness and is currently taking his case through the courts.
