Personal injury news- Court hears how experienced engineer died in accident at work
An inquest has been held into the death of an experienced engineer who died in an
accident at work.
Arthur Lawson, of Hull, was servicing a machine at Cherry Green Farm, in Buntingford, on 29th November 2005 when his arm became trapped in the mechanics.
The 50-year-old was discovered as two women walking their dogs heard noises coming from inside the farm building and raised the alarm.
When paramedics arrived at the scene of the work accident, Mr Lawson had already died from serious personal injuries.
The inquest at Hatfield Coroner's Court heard how the engineer, who had been working at the company for 11 years, severed his arm and suffered rib fractures in the accident.
Taran Hewitt, a mechanical engineer from the Health and Safety Executive, said that the machine had no faults and would have been moving for Mr Lawson to carry out a full inspection.
Detective Constable Melanie Burns was investigating the accident at work and was satisfied that nobody else had been involved.
Coroner Edward Thomas said, "Everything I have read and heard says that he was a lovely man. He was fit and healthy, very well regarded and good at his job. He was a very mechanically minded man."
