Elderly rape victim makes compensation claim
against attacker

The elderly victim of a serial rapist is renewing her bid to make a compensation claim against the man who left her mentally scarred.

77-year-old Mrs A, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was attacked by Iorworth Hoare in broad daylight in a park in Leeds in 1989. He was subsequently jailed for life but won £7.2million on the National Lottery after buying a ticket while out on day release.

Mrs A has already made two attempts at a compensation claim against Hoare- dubbed the 'Lotto rapist' by press- but has failed on both occasions because the incident occurred over six years ago. The former teacher is now attempting to overturn the court's last ruling and is taking her case to the Court of Appeal, claiming that her human rights would be breached if Hoare is allowed to get away without paying any compensation.

In addition to suffering personal injuries during the horrific attack, Mrs A has been left psychologically damaged and claims that her quality of life has been hugely affected. She has vowed to take her compensation claim as far as possible and will not rest until, in her opinion, justice is done.

Iorworth Hoare, now 52, already had a string of convictions for rape and sexual assault before he committed his 1989 attack. Released from prison, he now lives in a £700,000 house near Newcastle, earns up to £30,000 a month in interest from his Lottery win, and costs the taxpayer £2,500 a week to keep his identity protected.
