Heroic driver told he will be given car accident compensation
A number of people could have made a car accident compensation claim if one
heroic driver hadn't stopped a runaway bus in Norwich.
Dean Sutcliffe, 33, form Norfolk, was driving his Vaxhaull Zafira with his two sons,
Samuel, 10 and Tyler, 11, in the back seat when he saw an empty bus ploughing
towards a group of children on a crossing.
Mr Sutcliffe and his sons were lucky to escape without suffering any serious personal injuries after he drove his straight car into the path of the bus.
He told reporters, "The crossing was full of kids and the bus was heading towards
them. It was crashing into everything. Somebody had to take charge so I stuck the
car into it and brought it to a stop."
If Mr Sutcliff had failed to stop the bus, an accident could have caused serious personal injuries to nearby pedestrians and damaged a number of vehicles, with
possible car accident compensation claims to follow.
According to Rodger Haywood from First Bus, the empty bus was waiting for a
driver changeover with its engine switched off.
Norfolk police are investigating claims that two youngsters were seen tampering
with the bus before the road accident occurred.
Mr Haywood said, "If some youths or youngsters did get onto the bus to start it from
its standing position on Castle Meadow and then steered it onto Bank Plain before
jumping off, then this was a reckless and criminal action."
Mr Sutcliffe has been promised car accident compensation by First Bus for
damage caused to his £12,000 car in the vehicle accident.
