High number of no win, no fee claims tackled by new course
Highway engineers in Cumbria have been amongst the very few to have attended a unique course designed for highway experts.
The new course has been developed to combat the increasing number of no win, no fee claims made by motorists involved in road accidents.
The three-week course at Blackburn College allows students to study a number of important factors to help maintain British roads, including, potholes, kerb and pavement maintenance and construction issues.
Course organiser Michael White, said, "We are now living in a climate of compensation culture and no win, no fee litigation so the legal aspects of the job are becoming more and more important.
"We want to ensure council budgets are spent on roads and not in court costs."
In the future, the number of car accident claims being made on a no win, no fee basis could be dramatically reduced.
