Compensation claim results in £7,000 for sacked employee
A warehouse supervisor has been awarded over £7,000 after making a compensation claim for unfair dismissal.
Joseph Morgan complained that he was not given any support by J&L Industrial Supply UK following their decision to make him redundant in order to save money. He even volunteered to take a wage-cut, but the metal delivery firm refused his offer and dismissed him along with two other workers.
Before accepting Mr Morgan’s compensation claim, the Birmingham Employment Tribunal heard how he had been employed by the company for seven years. He also had to pay out £760 to complete treatment on a shoulder injury when the company withdrew his medical cover after the loss of his job.
Chairman of the tribunal, Charles Goodier, castigated J&L for its terrible treatment of its employee, saying, "Morgan was a qualified forklift truck driver and had been willing to be demoted in an attempt to stay with the firm.
"But no effort was made to find him another job."
