Accident claim made against Shell
A woman is making an accident claim against oil giant Shell after her fiancé was killed while working on a Shell oil platform. Jacqueline Ogilvie was due to marry Keith Moncrieff at the time of his death in September 2003. She has now filed a lawsuit against Wood Group, Mr Moncrieff's former employer, and Shell, the owner of the North Sea oil platform he was working on when he died.
The managing director of the accident claim firm which is dealing with the compensation claim on behalf of Miss Ogilvie, has said that his client has accused Shell of negligence which led to financial losses and mental anguish for her and her two daughters. It is believed that the defendants breached their statutory duty of care to Mr Moncrieff.
Last year Shell was fined £900,000 after admitting three health and safety breaches relating to Mr Moncrieff's death in a high-profile criminal lawsuit brought by the Scottish Crown.
Greg Hill, production director for Shell Exploration and Production Europe, the department responsible for the oil platform revealed that the company felt "100% responsible" for the death.
It is felt that the accident claim against the two parties will help Miss Ogilvie to move on with her life after the loss of her partner. Personal injury compensation received would help to support her and her two children financially in the future.
