Horse riding accident

Help making a personal injury compensation claim

Horse riding by its very nature is a relatively dangerous sport and lessons are required for beginners to ensure they are safe on the horse. Unfortunately accidents can happen, and riders are sometimes involved in incidents with motorists, which lead to injuries and distress. According to the British Horse Society there were eleven horse rider deaths involving motorists in 2002. The amount of people injured in horse riding accidents involving cars is decreasing but there are still an estimated 8 accidents per day in the UK. If you have had an accident whilst horse riding and it was not your fault then you are entitled to compensation.

We understand that any accident can be traumatic and as such try to make it as easy as possible for you to claim compensation. We believe that everyone should have access to legal advice whatever their circumstances and at The Claim Solicitors legal advice is free.

How to be safer on the roads
Horse riders have as much right to use the UK’s roads as other vehicles. However, riders are more exposed than drivers and are at the mercy of their horses’ temperament. If a horse is scared by a speeding car there is little that can be done to stop it from reacting in a way that may endanger itself and its rider. The British Horse Society promotes safety for riders and has produced a leaflet in conjunction with the Department for Transport called ‘How to be a Safer Rider’ and a video called ‘Horse Sense for Motorists’. There is also a test that can be taken by riders to help them understand safe road practise. For more information look at www.bhs.org.uk where you will find out how to enroll on a course or obtain the learning material.
