Brain injury compensation

Being involved in an accident of any kind and sustaining a brain injury is extremely traumatic for all those involved. If you or a loved one has been injured and it was not your fault then you are legally entitled to make a compensation claim. Brain injuries can occur in any type of accident but most significantly they occur as a result of road traffic accidents. If you wish to make a compensation claim for a brain injury then we can help you at every step of the way.

Brain injury
A brain injury occurs in three stages from the initial impact to effects that occur later.

The first injury occurs at impact, for example in a car accident when the patient’s head hits the windscreen or another hard object. The injury is either closed, open, where the brain is visible, or crushed, when the head is crushed between two objects.

The second injury happens when the brain is starved of oxygen either through blood blocking the airways or when another obstruction is blocking the airway. Another injury somewhere else on the body, where the patient is losing a lot blood can also cause a lack of oxygen to the brain.

The third injury is where the brain begins to swell because of leaking blood from blood vessels. This can happen days or weeks after the original first injury. It could also be the result of bleeding, bruising or swelling in the brain or because blood clots have developed. The raised pressure in the brain can cause serious problems including brain damage.

Compensation
No amount of money can return a person’s health after a brain injury; however it may ease the situation by relieving financial pressure. If someone has sustained a brain injury then they will be unable to work during the recovery stage and may need ongoing medical care and rehabilitation. In serious cases the injured person may need care for the rest of their life.
